Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic Played Mario and Luigi in Japanese Mercedes Commercials?

Remember those Mercedes GLA-Class commercials we showed you about a week ago? We thought something was weird about them… well… something other than the fact that they were in Japanese and depicted a very muscular version of Mario character we knew from our childhood games.

Today, we found out what was so special about the ads, as local Japanese media is reporting two top tennis players made cameo appearances in disguise, playing everybody's favorite plumbers.

The world's second best male player, Swiss ace Roger Federer is actually the guy dressed as Mario. Look past the big nose and funny hat… yep, it looks like him.

The guy dressed as Luigi, Mario's brother, is none other than his biggest rival, ATP's #1 Novak Djokovic.

Neither athlete has mentioned anything about doing Mercedes commercials in Japan. But if we put pictures from real life side by side with Mario and Luigi, the similarities are uncanny. Djokovic is the most obvious, especially since his facial expressions and wide-set ears are so well known.

So why are they in disguise? Well, for starters, Japanese commercials are usually very embarrassing. There's also the fact the Djokovic is under contract with French carmaker Peugeot and has done a few commercials for them that aired throughout this summer.

And why would a couple of millionaire tennis players make a weird commercial for Mercedes? Is it because the car company gave them lots of money? Roger Federer has been in lots of Mercedes videos and prints ads over the past 2 years. We'd like to think it's because everybody dreams of playing Mario one day in his life.

If it turns out that we're wrong, we'll eat Mario's red hat or pick a random fight with Bruiser. Check out the videos below and tell us what you thing – are the tennis stars playing games with us and is that Maria Sharapova with crazy-good makeup on?
