Roewe Developing Crossover Based on MG Icon Platform

Chinese automaker Roewe is reportedly working on its very own small SUV/crossover, for both the Chinese and the European markets. It will be underpinned by a derivative of the platform used for the Roewe 350, yet it will be made taller and probably beefed up, in order to cope with some light off-roading.
Another, more well-known car to be based on the same platform is the production version of the crossover previewed by the MG Icon concept, which may or may not have been spotted here. Both vehicles will be powered by the automaker’s 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine, and the European version will probably get a sales-boosting diesel for a more rounded-off range.

The Roewe-badged crossover should make its Chinese debut some time in 2014, and it is expected to cost around 100,000 yuan, or €12,400/$16,030 in its base spec. The MG-badged version will probably cost more, yet it will undoubtedly get a higher quality interior, extra options, as well as neater styling.
