He’s one of the biggest singer-songwriters the world has ever seen, he’s had six consecutive number one albums in the United Kingdom, and he’s still going strong after 55 years since he got his singing audition with record producer Joe Meek. Beyond his professional achievements, Rod Stewart is a full-on gearhead.
Over the years, he owned beauties such as a Ferrari F40 and a Bentley Arnage. What’s more, Rod the Mod used to own not one, but two examples of the Lamborghini Miura. One of them was sold three years ago, while the second example of the breed was listed on eBay.co.uk a year ago.
The latter Miura is for sale once again, this time around courtesy of Coys. Slated to be sold at Alexandra Palace on October 29, this car here was delivered new to Rod Stewart in 1971. Of the 764 Miuras ever made between 1966 and 1973, RHD cars like this one here are distinctly hard to come by.
Originally a P400 S, the featured Miura was transformed into an SV by the current owner. From the front and rear clam mods to suspension upgrades and the correct engine enhancements, everything’s been done with no regard to expenses. In addition to the P400 S-to-SV conversion, Rod Stewart’s Miura has also been overhauled in 2013 to concours condition by Colin Clarke Engineering at a cost of approximately £70,000. Incidentally, the estimate on this old-school machine is downright mind-boggling for mere mortals.
Slated to sell for as much as £900,000 ($1,100,745 at current exchange rates), there are a lot of factors that make the price worth it. Other than the sheer scarcity of the Miura and the fact that it’s the first road-legal supercar with its engine mounted in the middle, Rod Stewart was the original owner and subsequent owners took care of it. It's also right-hand drive, mind you.
It also happens to churn out 380 horsepower (385 PS) at 7,700 rpm, which is just enough get-up-and-go for hitting 62 mph (100 km/h) in the high 6s.
