Skoda UK has just announced availability and pricing for the all-new Octavia Scout model, a car that's sure to prove a hit with family buyers. The jacked-up estate that was unveiled back in March at the Geneva Motor Show should hit most major Skoda dealerships this month, available from £25,315.
Considering the most basic Volkswagen Passat Alltrack costs £29,385 and is already a couple of years old, Skoda's jacked-up Octavia estate is a relative bargain. They haven't skimped on technology either, with the very latest TDI diesel being available.

At launch, you'll be able to chose between a 148bhp base model with a six-speed manual and a 181bhp version of the same 2.0 TDI that's available with DSG. This is the first time such a powertrain has been offered on any Skoda model.

Capable of sprinting from 0 to 62 mph (100km/h) in only 7.8 seconds and a top speed of 137 mph (220 km/h), the Octavia Scout is quite brisk. However, it's also relatively efficient considering its size: 55.4mpg combined (5.1 l/100km), equivalent to CO2 emission of only 134 g/km. This makes the new model 20% more efficient than its predecessor, partly due to the latest generation of Haldex-5 all-wheel drive coupling.

Standard equipment for the model will include 17-inch alloy wheels, redesigned front and rear bumpers with protective shields, partial-leather seats and a new three-spoke steering wheel developed specifically for the Scout. Unfortunately, a reversing camera will cost you extra, and taking the length of the vehicle into consideration, it's a much-needed feature.
