Paul Verhoeven’s American cyberpunk action film was one of the sci-fi movies that used more than special effects to get the audience’s interest. It appealed to basic human emotions such as humor, sadness, and care, thus turning a half-man, half-machine in the perfect hero cop. If a movie was able to make a robotic police officer popular, Dubai officials apparently believe a real one could make the city safer and more attractive to tourists in the near future.
After all, let’s face it, the fleet of hypercars and exotic sportscars did manage to get the entire world’s attention. Petrol heads around the planet are eagerly looking for new parades where the Dubai Police special fleet would showcase their latest additions. And the special force’s PR department sure knows how to use this benefit. Just think of their February big-budget video shot in 4K resolution where dozen supercars were driven in a proper manner.
Not one year passes, and you find out they just added a new BMW i8 or Rolls-Royce Phantom to their auto collection, it’s no wonder people follow them like we used to watch Top Gear.
“We are aiming to provide these kinds of services as the population is expanding. This way we can provide better services without hiring more people,” Colonel Khalid Nasser Alrazooqi, the head of the city’s “smart” unit, said during a speech at the Gulf Information Security Expo and Conference, according to Dubai’s Khaleej Times.
The Police chief was referring their plan to introduce interactive patrolling bots by 2017, and fully intelligent robots by the end of this decade. This huge technological step is expected to happen before Dubai hosts the Expo in 2020.
According to the source, the machines will interact directly with people and tourists through an interactive screen for a face and a microphone. These futuristic bots will transmit and receive commands from the Dubai Police call centers.
Privacy issues will remain an unanswered question, but if these Robocops will actually come true Dubai will surely be the most attractive place to visit for gizmo-heads around the planet.

From Supercars to Super-Cops
If having the most expensive cars in the world at your disposal seemed like a great marketing move, then you should wait to see the special fleet of Robocops Dubai is planning to get.“We are aiming to provide these kinds of services as the population is expanding. Autonomous police robots
And that is just the first phase, as they will eventually turn into real autonomous robots. They’ll be capable of taking decisions on their own, thus assuming humans’ patrol duties.Privacy issues will remain an unanswered question, but if these Robocops will actually come true Dubai will surely be the most attractive place to visit for gizmo-heads around the planet.
