Robby Gordon Makes Toyota Switch for 2009

Robby Gordon has officially announced that he will drive a Toyota in the upcoming season of the Sprint Series. The official partnership between the Japanese manufacturer and Robbie Gordon Motorsports was announced by Gordon himself earlier today.

“We are excited to be partnering with Toyota in NASCAR in 2009. After watching their progress last season, we decided that a switch to Toyota was the right package for our team. We are confident that fielding a Toyota Camry will add to the success of our organization and the competitiveness of our performance on the race track,” stated Gordon.

Toyota will be the 4th car maker associated with Robby Gordon in the Sprint Cup in the last 3 years. After previously running on Chevrolet, Ford and Dodge machineries until 2008, the 39-year old Californian will make a 'return to the basics' with Toyota, following their successful NASCAR campaign in 1989.

“I've known Robby as a driver, team owner and fierce competitor since 1990. We've raced together in Off-Road, IMSA, SCCA and Indy Car and have shared many memorable challenges and victories. It will be exciting to see how the association between Robby, his team, Toyota and TRD will develop in 2009. I promise you that it will not be boring to watch,” revealed TRD's president Lee White.

Robby Gordon finished the last season as the 34th best driver in the Sprint Cup Series, therefore ensuring the presence in the first 5 races of next season. His only Top 10 performances of the season happened at Daytona (both races) and Talladega.
