ROAME Zeros Wireless Blinker and Brake Light Motorcycle Shoes Are Truly Nifty

ROAME Zeros is a rider safety-oriented project that was fully financed on Kicksyarter and we are eagerly waiting to see how well in performs in the real world. The idea may sound as simple as child's play, yet nobody was able to secure funding to put it in production so far, so credits go to these guys.

The main thing was to create riding boots that are more fashionable and less bulky than traditional motorcycle boots. Riding in the urban environment, to work, shopping or for leisure and wearing the real-deal tall shin boots is a no-no, yet the protection a riders' feet have when things go awry, and they are wearing casual shoes is another no-no.

So the creators of ROAME Zeros took their time to blend in fashion and protection, and then adding an extra detail to make things even better. The ankle-high ROAME boots look almost like casual basketball or even skate shoes, but they are a piece of authentic technical gear.

Abrasion-resistant leather and synthetic fabric panels make sure that the rider's feet are well protected against road rash. Impact protection arrives in the shape of armor inserts manufactured by the leading material, the amazing D3O polymer that remains flexible yet hardens when impacted. D3O armor panels protect the toe and calf zones.

Red and yellow LED lights have been inserted in the sole's edge and they are lit when they receive commands from an electronic module that must be installed aboard the bike.

The module lights the red LEDs when the rider uses the brake, in sync with the taillight of the motorcycle, while the corresponding amber LEDs light up when the rider uses the turn signals.

Watching the attached video, it appears that the ROAME Zeros dramatically enhance the visibility or a motorcyclist in poor lighting conditions, and we loved the idea.

Apparently the shoes come with rechargeable batteries. Some might argue that these represent yet another item one must remember to recharge, but as these LED modules are only used for seconds at a time, we figure out that they will last a lot.

With almost a month of ROAME Zeros Kickstarter campaign remaining, the project might even unlock another feature that will see the capacity of the batteries doubled.

Instead of adding batteries, we'd rather go for an inductive charging system, with the corresponding panels installed in the shoes and on the bike, making sure these shoes will never-ever remain without energy as long as the rider is in the saddle. Also, we'd add a shifter patch on these shoes, to make sure they remain stylish even after prolonged wearing.

You can still buy ROAME Zeros for an early bird price of $299 (€268).
