"Why does the Ferrari 488 GTE racecar in the image above pack a number plate?" we hear you asking. The answer is simple and it has to do with the Internet enjoying playing with supercars in such a manner.
This, of course, is a rendering, one that comes from digital artist Khyzyl Saleem. The Brit wanted to deliver a meaner 488 without turning to the aftermarket world, so he built on the mid-engined Fezza's track-confined version.

The man even took the time to explain the pixel transformation process we see here, albeit dropping a brief one on his Facebook page: "when a JDM fan get his hands on an Ex-488 GTE Racecar,"

Speaking of a racecar-inspired Ferrari 488 derivative, we'll remind you we spied the Maranello engineers testing a machine that could be just that. However, despite the said spy footage having arrived last summer, we haven't heard anything new about the project.

We're talking about a prototype wearing the "F142M M3) code, with the mid-engined delight expected to preview the 458 "Speciale" - the quotes are here since the Prancing Horse will probably go for another designation, as the vehicle's bloodline demonstrates (this involves the 458 Speciale, the 430 Scuderia and the 360 Challenge Stradale).

It's worth mentioning that the future street car should be based on the 488 Challenge (check out the gallery to your right) racecar, which was unveiled back in December.

With the 488 using a twin-turbo heart, you might be tempted to think that delivering a more powerful edition is a piece of cake. However, with one of the top priorities being to keep turbo lag at bay and maintain a splendid drivability level, the Italian engineers have quite the task on their hands.

Here's an explanation, in case you're experiencing deja vu

If this story happens to be familiar, it might be because the said artist seems to have a thing for such imaginary conversions. In fact, we wrote about a similar rendering earlier today, with that tale revolving around the Lamborghini Huracan.
