Remember Toyota? We mean Toyota-the carmaker, not Toyota-the talk of the day, the center of unwanted and unneeded attention caused by the almost year-long unintended acceleration issue. If you don't, this year's Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas might be bringing back some memories.
The Japanese carmaker will not miss the event, where it will bring the RK Collection Toyota Camry NASCAR Edition. Created by a NASCAR icon, Rob Kauffman, co-owner of the Michael Waltrip Racing team, the car is a blend between the street legal Camry and the NASCAR mean version.
In simpler terms, the car is a production Camry wearing a NASCAR engine implant. The creators of the car squeezed into the Camry a TRD NASCAR V8 engine, which develops a staggering 680 horsepower at 8,500 rpm, controlled via a Tremic T-56 Magnum six-speed manual transmission with a Ram dual-disc street clutch.
Visually, the car differentiates itself from the weaker of its kind by presenting quite an extensive visual upgrade program. The car's body, a RKC custom made 2010 Camry two-door, sits on TSW Jarama wheels shoed in Michelin Pilot tires. The racing pedigree can be found in the body kit, Toyota grill, carbon fiber brake ducts with fog lights and TRD emblems.
At the interior, custom leather-covered panels, a suede headliner with integrated rear tweeters and leather-covered power seats take care of the occupants' bodies, while a Pioneer AVIC-2110BT DVD/NAV system with Boston Acoustics amps and speakers take care of their moods.
As said, the RKC Toyota Camry NASCAR Edition for SEMA will be on display at the SEMA show which opens next week.
