RIP: The Man Who Brought the E36 M3 to America Passes Away

It's hard to say just how important Bob Roemer was for the BMW community in the US. If it wasn't for him, the E36 M3 wouldn't have made it across the ocean so we think a message of compassion for his family is the least we could do.

Bob died Friday after a long battle with a crippling disease close to Multiple Sclerosis. Few people knew it but for the last couple of years, all his materials were written using a speech-recognition software.

Probably the most affected people are those working close with the BMW Car Club of America or Roundel magazine, the places where Bob used to have different columns and where he really stood out, making the CCA one of the most important BMW communities in the US.

Furthermore, if it wasn't for his concentrated efforts, the US might've missed out on the E36 M3, a car that initially wasn't supposed to reach this side of the Atlantic. His devotion combined with the efforts of all the members of the CCA and Erik Wensberg, the then director of Motorsport at BMW NA convinced BMW to ship the E36 to all the dedicated fans that were getting almost desperate.
