2009 is not even over and carmakers have already begun giving us a hint at what the March Geneva Auto Show may bring. One of those manufacturers is Rinspeed, who will debut a new Intelligent Mobility Concept Centered dubbed UC? (we know, we can't understand either why electric cars can't have normal names).
UC? is as tiny as its name, measuring only 2.50 meters in length. Being so small, it is obviously aimed for city driving and does not have any breath taking highway abilities. So, does that mean you can't drive it to your friend's friend, some two towns away, to show it off? No. You can. But by train.
In the purest Rinspeed style, the UC? features an advanced railcar loading system which allows it to get on a train. The only thing left to do is fit the trains with the corresponding system. Easy...
If your not interested in getting out of town, the UC? can cover some 120 city kilometers, at illegal top speeds of some 110 km/h.
"UC? - it's a new and highly emotional web-based car world that interweaves individual and public transport in an intelligent way. We want to create a community of people who are open for a new definition of mobility," Frank M. Rinderknecht, Rinspeed chief said in a release.
Funny and out of this world as you might find the UC?, the mini EV has a big chance of turning production version. At least this is what its designer says, adding that he is now involved in intensive dialogues at the highest levels with volume manufacturers.
