Ringo Starr’s Facel Vega Going Under the Hammer

While the name Facel may raise a few eyebrows, especially among those who are not familiar with automakers that barely made it past their 25th anniversary, we have a feeling no one would dare ask who Ringo Starr is.

He joined The Beatles in 1962 and spent eight years with the British quarter until 1970, when Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Starr decided to part ways and find further success on their own. But we’re not here to talk about his life and career, we just wanted to let you know that his Facel Vega Facel II will be auctioned off later this year.

Why should you care you may ask? Well, what we have here is a very rare vehicle from an extinct automaker. Facel built a handful of automobiles from 1954 until 1964, when it went bankrupt, the exact same year Starr bought this stunning coupe. Built in France, but powered by a huge 6.7-liter V8 engine from Chrysler (390 HP), this Facel II was acquired directly from the Facel stand at the Earls Court Motor Show for £5,570.

As it turns out, it’s one of only two fitted with the 6.7-liter mill and one of only 26 units with right-hand-drive. Guess this is why Bonhams Auction says it should fetch from £300,000 to £350,000 ($428,100 - $562,030) on December 1, when it’s scheduled to go under the hammer in London, UK.
