Rider Crashes Into Street-Crossing Van In Most Unfortunate Way

Personally, this is the kind of accident I fear the most - not being able to see a vehicle doing something dangerous and suddenly realize it’s in my way and I’m about to hit it. Which is exactly what happens in the video here.

What you’re about to see shows that you are prone to bite the dust on a motorcycle even if you’re riding perfectly legal. It’s a risk we all assume every time when we get in the saddle. And the scariest part is that it could happen when you least expect it.

Looking at the footage the rider in the clip posted on YouTube below, you could say he’s a responsible motorcyclist, minding his own business, being careful and all. But then luck runs out, with an unfortunate vehicle pattern occurring and surprising him with almost no time to react.

The 1:50 mark in the clip shows the Sydney rider going down a not-so-busy city road. His lane is completely empty, but there’s some traffic on the oncoming lane. Pretty normal for an afternoon, but danger lurks in the shape of a white van that is exiting a property on the right and trying to pass the oncoming lane to head the same direction as the rider.

You’d think a careful rider would see this in time and react, but here’s the catch. An 18-wheeler was parked just before the said property blocking the view to its exit from the angle the rider was.

And exactly when he got past that truck, a Toyota Hiace on the oncoming lane masked the van that was exiting the yard, making it visible exactly when it was merging with the ongoing lane. Sadly, the rider was a bit too close to it when that happened, and braking didn’t do much.

Thankfully, the rider walked away only with a scratch on his right leg, but the bike, a Kawasaki ZX14R ended up a write-off.
