Alongside electrification, automatization, and connected vehicles, urban mobility is one of the many Holy Grails the automotive world is exploring in a bid to capture the next transportation revolution and make it their own. VW AG’s Spanish automaker SEAT has its own agenda on the matter, and it includes an electric jump on the two-wheeled bandwagon.
Better said, it includes three jumps in the electric scooter field – as the SEAT MÓ division (which went live exactly a year ago, in November 2019) presented during the summer a new range comprised of the eScooter 125, eKickScooter 65 and the eKickScooter 25.

While the 65 and 25 are just the glorified Spanish representatives of the push-scooter category made famous by the likes of Lime or Bird, the eScooter 125 is more akin to a classic scooter – in terms of both design and performance.

Properly styled with both well-known scooter and SEAT design cues, the eScooter 125 has a bland name designed to make it easier to understand for anyone transitioning from the classic scooter segment. Basically, it’s called like that so anyone would know its electrified performance is on par with that of a 125cc motorcycle.

It also aims to stand out in a crowd with a few touches that are more often encountered in the automotive world – such as the exclusive matte paint options, among others. SEAT promises its styling DNA is also present on its first all-electric motorcycle, a vehicle that was created to “provide convenience and simplicity for those traversing congested cities.”

As such, its SEAT MÓ urban mobility efforts have been located at the newly inaugurated “Casa SEAT” in Barcelona, which has become the first hub for the newly created division. And they’re hitting the Spanish market with the first product – the eScooter 125 – starting this month, with pricing kicking off at €6,250 ($7,430 at the current exchange rates).

It’s a bit steep, though we all know early adopters always have to pay the price of their ambitions. The eScooter 125 does have good credentials on its behalf: 7kW electric motor (9 kW in peak mode), 5.6kWh lithium-ion battery (137 km / 82 miles of range), 0-50 kph (31 mph) of 3.9 seconds, and a 95 kph / 59 mph top speed.

But, best of all, SEAT is also offering the option of paying just €3 / $3.58 per day through home-market financing deals – and hopefully it will do the same when its eScooter 125 reaches the rest of the main EU markets early next year.
