Richard Petty, as I’m sure you already know, is nicknamed The King because he is the first driver to win the NASCAR Championship a king-sized seven times. Better still, the 78-year-old racer can pride itself on winning the Daytona 500 seven times.
On the race track, Richard Petty proved all that could be proven. In his old age, The King has found passion in customizing road-going cars to pro touring or street rod levels. Cue Petty’s Garage, a place where even Brian Johnson of AC/DC drops by for a visit from time to time. The latest project Petty’s Garage has been working on is the 2017 Ford Mustang GT King Edition.

Despite the fact that The King celebrates his 80th birthday in July 2017, Petty’s Garage explains that this limited-run Ford Mustang has been created to honor Richard Petty’s 80th birthday. “We couldn’t be more excited to continue our relationship with Ford Motor Company and announce our builds of the 2017 Mustang,” declared Russ Stellfox, chief exec at Petty’s Garage.

The first of two King Edition packages for the 2017 Ford Mustang GT packs 670 horsepower from the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 and holds a suggested retail price of $35,000. The so-called Premier Edition, on the other hand, ups the ante to 825 horsepower with the help of a supercharger. Richard Petty’s Garage assures that a full warranty from Ford is included with the purchase of the base package, while the Premier will offer a third-party warranty for 3 years/36,000 miles. That's pretty good for such a high-performance car, TBH.

In 2017, Petty’s Garage will add a new member to the King Edition family. More to the point, the shop will modify the EcoBoost-powered Mustang by adding a center exhaust system, sleeker side mirrors, and a race-inspired spoiler. “We’re honored to offer this to our fans and customers and believe that these machines will be in high demand,” added Stellfox. Bear in mind that only 500 units will be built and sold via Ford dealers.

P.S.: Tomorrow, July 2, Richard Petty will turn 79. Here's an advance happy birthday to The King!
