Richard Petty on Danica Patrick Remarks: I’m Not a Sexist

Last week, Richard Petty said Danica Patrick, the only female driver in the NASCAR Sprint Cup can win a race only “if everybody else stayed home”. While Danica replied that “everyone’s entitled to their opinion”, others deemed the comment sexist.

Last weekend, during the NASCAR Sprint Unlimited season-opener, Petty stood firm behind his remarks: “If her name had been Danny, OK, nobody would have said anything about it. So, y'all are bringing up the sexist part of it, not me.”

“It was definitely not sexist, OK? Hey, look, I've been married 55 years to the same woman. So I am not a sexist by any ways. I love women,” the “King” added.

In related NASCAR news, Denny Hamlin has won the Sprint Unlimited race in his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, crossing the finish line ahead of Brad Keselowski (Penske) and Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs Racing). During the same race, the Chevrolet SS pace car caught fire before the final leg.
