Richard Petty Motorsports Goes the Ford Way

Having scored a ninth place in last weekend's Talladega 500 race with Elliot Sadler's Ford, Richard Petty Motorsports decided to put AJ Allmendinger behind the wheel of one too, at least for the remainder of the season.

"Elliott drove a Ford for us at Talladega last week and everyone was really positive about the experience. It’s our turn this week tire testing a Ford in Daytona and we’ll drive one at Phoenix and Homestead as well," Allmendinger was quoted as saying by NASCAR.

The car to be used by Allmendinger is a Ford Fusion, which will enter the remaining three races, is the perfect way for Petty to test new cars in light of the upcoming season.

For us these next three weeks are just learning about what a Ford likes and dislikes as far as chassis setup and engine tuning. Nothing beats experience in this sport and the only way you get experience is by just doing it, he added."

"So we are starting our learning curve this week and hopefully we will be a little bit further ahead for next season by doing this. We’re running the “King’s” old paint scheme with the Ford logo for the rest of the season."

The Petty Motorsports driver joined the ranks of NASCAR figures which are in trouble with the law last week, when he got arrested on DUI charges. He is currently on NASCAR probation until the end of the year and on Petty Motorsports probation by the end of 2010.
