Rhis Millen's Hyundai Genesis PM580 Set for Pikes Peak Hill Climb Record

Rhys Millen is still celebrating last year’s Pikes Peak Hill Climb 2WD Time Attack Record (12:09.397), which he set using a rear wheel drive Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

And what better way to celebrate than setting a new record, this time the absolute one, for the Unlimited class. That means that Millen can use whatever crosses his mind (ok, it must have four wheels) to fight the 10:01.41 time, set by Nobuhiro Tajima in 2007 with his Suzuki XL7 Hill Climb Special.

And his dreams are pretty wild: a Chromoly DOM tube chassis (+ roll cage) that accommodates a 4.1 liter Hyundai Lambda V6 engine and is wrapped in a custom carbon fiber body. The powerplant, stroked from 3.8 liters, uses a HKS T04Z turbocharger, bar and plate intercooler, custom stainless steel exhaust manifolds. The power wave (currently rated at 750 hp) is sent to all four wheels through a Tilton Racing Clutch, Weismann semi-automatic transmission and two Qaulife differentials, working together with an active center differential.

The racecar uses 17 inch HRE rims, that accommodate carbon fiber Brembo brakes and are wrapped in 275/40 (rear) Toyo Proxy tires. In addition to that, it features a front and a rear air diffuser as well as an Aeromotions active rear wing. The whole package is expected to tip the scales at 1,850 lb.

Marketing is also included in the scheme, as the vehicle is dubbed RMR (Rhis Millen Racing) Hyundai Genesis PM580.

The driver will have enough reasons to make a superhuman effort on the asphalt-gravel 12.42 mile, 156 turns course, as he will also have the mission to bring the record back to the Millen family - Prior to Tajima’s run, the record was held by Rod Millen, Rhys’s father, who saw his achievement being blasted after 13 years of glory.
