The golden bowtie has announced that it will offer a trailering camera system for the 2014 to 2016 model year Chevrolet Silverado full-size pickup truck. It’s retrofittable and it’s priced at $999 excluding the tax, labor, and the installation.
Chevrolet joined hands with Echomaster to develop the system and it is a good one of those. Three cameras are featured to make trailering easier. Two of them are installed under the side mirror and one is mounted on the rear of the trailer. If you have a heavy-duty Silverado pickup truck, the installation is straightforward. But if you own a Silverado 1500, you’ll need the trailer-towing side mirrors for the unit to be compatible with your tried-and-true workhorse.

Integrated into the housing of the side mirrors, the side cameras are there to improve vision along either side of the truck and trailer. Whenever the driver activates the turn signal, the retrofittable trailering camera system displays the correlating side view in the center screen. As for the camera mounted to the top, rearmost edge of the trailer, it provides the best view the driver could wish for when reversing.

An optional fourth camera can make life even easier. The fourth camera can be installed inside the trailer for the driver to keep an eye on whatever content he or she is transporting, from cattle to fodder and pretty much everything in between. Chevrolet says it won’t stop here with its trailering technologies.

Sometime this summer, the golden bowtie will introduce an optional camera integrated into the center brake light of the truck for those drivers who want to see the contents of the bed at all times. Better still, it will prove helpful when connecting a fifth-wheel or a gooseneck trailer. As a brief refresher, the 2016 model year Chevrolet Silverado 1500 starts at $27,095 and its heavy-duty brother starts at $32,995.
