Since chances you’re one of the millionaires that actually have time and money to spend at luxury auctions around the world just for the fun of paying hundred-thousands dollars for rare cars are slim, we might have found something even better. Not only are they proof for stunning craftsmanship, but you could actually afford bidding for one.
We’re talking about an exclusive, previously restored collection of very old pedal cars offered by the eccentric British auction house Bonhams. Most of them are mass-market examples by Murray, thus the prices are bearable, still quite spicy since we’re talking about three to four figures.
The entire collection counts for about 15 20th century pedal cars to choose from which includes a 1941 Pontiac, 1952 General Sad Face, 1958 55Chevy Lancer, 1958 Champion Fiat Face and even a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud pedal car from Tri-angs. Together, the models - most are restored to their previous glory- date from the early 1930s all the way to the 1960s.
Pedal cars weren’t considered as collectable (toys?) items until recently, probably ever since kids started receiving the latest electric toy cars on the market. Some of these plastic four-wheelers we even reviewed ourselves, just to get a better grip on why would anybody ever want their 6-year old daughter to play with a toy Rolls-Royce equipped with the latest stereo and even some karaoke features.
The most expensive examples collectors can find on the market are the hand-made pedal cars manufactured in Europe, which can reach prices similar to a new family SUV even. However, the ones in question, due to reach the Bonhams Scottsdale auction on January 15, belong to the middle-to-bottom of the collectable classic pedal car market.
We put up a quite impressive photo gallery below, which will most likely convince you that these beauties are way more better than the current toy cars you can find on the market.
