Respect the Speed Limit, Get Rewarded

100+ years of motoring have been accompanied by all sorts of penalties and fines for breaking the traffic rules. We doubt there is a single driver out there who hasn't, at one point, broken something and got caught.

Despite it all, traffic laws enforcement agencies are just as ineffective in making the drivers obey the law as other police organizations are in eradicating, for instance, prostitution. We mean, if this penalty system had worked, shouldn't we have seen some results by now?

Probably for the first time ever at an organized level, a government is planning to try a different approach when it comes to making drivers do what they're told. Just as is the case with kids, when beating doesn't work, you might want to try a candy.

UK's new shadow transport secretary, Maria Eagle, is planning a set of measures which, if passed, will allow drivers who keep to the law benefit from a series of incentives when, for instance, they come to renew their tax disc.

Sure, it's not like a police officer comes to your door and hands you a brick of pounds for your good behavior, but it's a start.

"There is an incentive for good behaviour which is perhaps better psychologically than a disincentive for bad behaviour,” Eagle was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.

This rather reminds us of the Speed Camera Lottery devised by Kevin Richardson for Volkswagen's Thefuntheory. It is, if you ask us, perhaps one of the greatest ides of the year and probably law makers should look at it as to more than a source for good fun.
