The footage was shot last week, on the 17th July, and shows the horrifying moment when an AS365N3 Dauphin2 helicopter suddenly crashed in the town of Gwangju in the southwestern region of Korea (approximately 330 km south of Seoul) killing all five people on board.

According to Aviafora, the aircraft was operated by South Korea’s Gangwon Fire Department and was returning to its home base in Gangwon Province (in northeast Korea) from Gwangju Airport after having completed an early morning search to Jindo (the area of the southeastern coast of Korea where the MV Sewol ferry sinked). The helicopter was involved in post-rescue operations surrounding the aftermath of the Sewol disaster.

Video footage shows the Dauphin helicopter plummeting into the ground at high speed in a nose down attitude having lost all control. The air shuttle exploded on impact on a street in Gwanju creating a fireball which consumed the helicopter. The cause of the accident is so far unknown.
