What appears to be a rendering – not a photograph - in a Japanese magazine. That’s all it took for the motoring media to suspect Lexus is planning to roll out the LS F at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show, which opens its doors this coming October.
Posted by JZS International Co., Ltd. Japan on Instagram, the rendering shows a blue-painted LS with ridiculously big wheels and even more ridiculous tires. The front bumper, side hills, and wheel arch flares are obviously Photoshopped, so don’t expect the real F to look like it does in the rendering.

The thing, however, is that Lexus has been testing the LS F for a few months now, with our spy photographers catching an example with Belgian license plates. Developed as a rival to the Mercedes-AMG S63, the big bad LS in F attire is expected to walk the walk with the help of a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8.

Just to be clear, the force-fed engine is the result of an ongoing rumor that originates from the Land of the Rising Sun. As it is, the LS is currently offered with naturally aspirated and twin-turbo V6 engines. The addition of a high-performance V8 is highly likely considering that the 2UR all-alloy quad-cam V8 made was introduced back in 2008 with the former generation of the IS F.

As long as Lexus is capable of squeezing 600 horsepower from the alleged plant and plenty of torque from low down in the rev range, the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 from Mercedes-AMG would finally receive a worthy competitor. For what it’s worth, Lexus needs this kind of excitement from the LS if Lexus intends to market the full-size sedan as a true competitor to the S-Class.

In the case the LS F doesn't show up in Tokyo, fret not. Mazda has something good in the offing, a sports car powered by the SkyActiv-R rotary engine.
