How badly do you want to get your hands on the first-ever battery-electric Ford F-150? Depending on your answer, this topic could either make you sad or indifferent, because it appears that the order banks for the F-150 Lightning have been pushed back a couple of months.
As you can imagine, the Blue Oval didn’t exactly step forward to make the announcement, as it comes indirectly from the Lightning Owners Forum. Several users were reportedly contacted via the World Wide Web by multiple dealerships, informing them that the order banks have been pushed back from October 26 to December (unspecified date).
Nonetheless, on a more positive note, it appears that the actual shipping of the zero-emission trucks isn’t affected by this decision, as owners should take delivery next summer – presuming that they won’t face other setbacks, like the semiconductor shortage.
“Unfortunately, the Lightning order banks will not be opening next week (October 26). They will now be opening in December 2021,” the dealerships said. “I will reach back out in December to scheduled appointments to order Lightnings at that time. The arrival of the Lightning has not been delayed, and is still due to arrive in mid-2022.”
Set to become the first truly accessible electric truck in the United States, the Ford F-150 Lightning has a starting price of just under $40,000. That’s around $5,000 shy of the 2021 F-150 Lariat, and it makes it more affordable than the Rivian R1T, which hit the assembly line last month, with an MSRP of $69,000.
The starting price has turned the Dearborn automaker’s EV into a veritable cash cow, as it has been reported that they have received in excess of 150,000 reservations for it, 75% of which being from customers who are new to the brand. and around 30,000 of them being registered over the last two months or so.
