New info about the i8 keeps showing up online, even though the Bavarians already completely unveiled the ultra hybrid and its specs. According to Dutch publication Autovisie, the engineers from Munich wanted to drop a V10 engine in the chassis of the i8.
Sure, those were the plans at the beginning and they were allowed to dream at first, but as the project advanced a V8 was considered and then a 6-cylinder unit, ultimately ending up with a hybrid set-up made up of a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged engine and an electric motor.

For now, we have to 'deal' with the 94 mpg (2.5 l/100 km) consumption and the 4.4 seconds to 100 km/h (62 mph) this sports car is capable of but who knows, maybe in the future (maybe in 2016, when BMW will be celebrating its 100th anniversary) we'll get to see a big engine in the ultra-light i8.
