Mercedes is about to show its long-awaited new GT a few days from now, the replacement for the SLS. While we're excited at the prospect of a cheaper bespoke sportscar from AMG to compete with the 911, we will also be extremely sad to see the old war machine be retired. And what better way to send the SLS on its last road than with a full military salute, a quad cannon barrage of high-rpm fire. Right, enough chitchat, time to listen to some brutal exhaust notes.
The notes in question come from the mighty SLS AMG Black Series that's been tuned by RENNtech, a famous company that was started by two ex AMG engineers. Before they got the car, the SLS AMG Black Series was already amazing. However, a complete overhaul of the engine has resulted in a sonorous and impressive 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8: no less than 675 hp and 678 Nm (500 lb ft) of torque).
It's a lovely sound that we'd love to wake up to every morning. Can you imagine the things you'd see working at RENNtech every day? Anyways, the guys have done a fantastic job, one that Mercedes-Benz's new car will probably not measure up to. You see, the GT (codenamed C190) will be powered by a downsized 4-liter with twin turbos… and we all know what those do to the purity of exhaust sound.
