Back in 2008, Renntech stunned the aftermarket world, introducing the GLK350 Hybrid Pikes Peak Rally Car concept. Now, the US tuner is bringing the vehicle under the spotlights once again.

The project has been refreshed and will enter one last adventure this year, touring America. Subsequently, the eco racing SUV (we know, this is one weird word association) will be permanently displayed in the Mercedes-Benz Classic Vehicle Museum located in Irvine, CA.

So, let's see how Renntech revamped the vehicle. The aftermarket developer joined forces with 3M Commercial Graphics Division for the new development. The vehicle’s new body kit was created by Renntech and covered in 3M’s 1080 Scotchprint textured automotive vinyl wrap.

A preprinted 3.5 mm dual cast film was applied to almost all exterior surfaces, mixing carbon fiber and brushed steel looks with subtle red pin stripping.

This original body kit was entirely designed and engineered by RENNtech in-house, using the latest in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software and rapid prototype capabilities. The concept behind the restyling was to not only completely change the vehicles appearance, but utilize vinyl materials in finishes rarely seen in the automotive world,” explained the press release.

The GLK350 Pikes Peak Project has made its public debut at the first event of the Mercedes-Benz tour, which will take place at Pittsburgh International Automotive Show on February 10-13th. The list of other tour stops includes Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Kansas City, Minneapolis and Denver. After its time on the road, the vehicle can be seen at the Mercedes-Benz Classic Vehicle Museum in Irvine, California.
