The nutters from AMG are known for extracting some of the most hair-raising exhaust sounds from their engines, but everyone knows that there is no such thing as “the ultimate exhaust sound” and that there is always something more to be desired from a performance car, no matter how sexy it sounds standard.
The Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG (C218), for example, is one of the fiercest-sounding current AMG models, despite being fitted with two turbochargers – which usually take away from an engine's “racy” sound.
The folks from RENNtech weren't satisfied with how the car sounds in standard, so they put their best engineers to work and created two choices for people who desire some extra auditory pleasure when flooring their AMG CLS.
A more inexpensive version costs a little under $3,000 and only offers a pair a stainless steel sport mufflers, while the more hardcore version is almost $5,000 and includes performance downpipes with 200 cell sport catalysts, which also provide a tad of extra horsepower and torque when combined with RENNtech's ECU software.
To give you a better idea of how they sound, RENNtech put together a short video depicting a stock CLS 63 AMG, one equipped with the sports mufflers and one with the sport mufflers and down pipes. Needless to say, we thoroughly enjoyed the short audio.
