Have you guys ever heard the stories about genetic diversity with apes and humans? Apparently, even though people from Africa look totally different to the ones in Beijing, the total diversity pool is only 2%. By comparison, chimpanzees which all look identical to us have a 10% pool of diversity.
To explain this, scientist say we humans have trained our eyes to recognize the subtle difference within our race. It's probably the same with SUVs, don't you think? They're all pretty much the same size and shape, but we see them as being totally different. Nobody has actually taken any big risks in terms of design, except for Nissan, who built Frankenstein's monster.
One solution might be to sell more 3-door SUVs, like the Macan in Theophilus Chin's latest rendering. It's been chopped here and there, resulting in a shape resembling Land Rover's Evoque.
The only problem with the idea is that most people actually want the rear doors to put baby seats in the back. But, as one song put it "if everybody looked the same we'd grow tired of looking at each other."
Porsche has made it very clear that there's no more cash in the bank to mess about, as development of the Macan and building the factory that makes it has spent their powder. So it will be at least a few more years before they even consider building the a 3-door SUV or a Sports Activity Coupe. Guess BMW will once again have a market all to itself for a while.
