Our latest spyshots of the upcoming BMW 2 Series Convertible revealed some interesting details, leading us to suspect that there will be an M235i version released when the entire line-up will be revealed.
That means that we’ll get the exhilarating performance of the new M Performance Automobile with the top down too. Sure, the two will be separated by a couple of extra pounds due to the roof retracting mechanism but they will still share the engine, transmission and suspension setup.

The guys from L'Automobile magazine did a rendering of how the new model might look like and they are pretty spot on. The body will remain exactly the same with the exception of the roof, of course, that will get a retractable soft top. Yes, the 2 Series will have a soft top, just as its predecessor, the 1 Series Convertible used to.

Hard top Bimmers will remain the 4 Series and the Z4 Roadster while the 2 Series and 6 Series will be the soft top alternatives.

As for the performance, expect it to drop but just by a bit, maybe 0.1-0.2 seconds, which would still be acceptable by today’s standards, making the drop top M235i a 5-second car.

Expect the prices to rise though, but only marginally, our guess being a sub $50,000 price point which would make it another best buy in its range. The new car is supposed to come out this summer, with the same engine line-up as its coupe brother: the 220i, 228i and 220d next to the M235i.
