Back in July, during an interview, BMW Senior Vice President for Brand and Product Strategies, Klaus Froelich stated that he was very excited about the new M235i and what it is capable of doing.
On the same subject, he said that the new car would be the true successor of the iconic 2002ti model and would even beat the 1M Coupe on the Nurburgring. That came to us as no surprise, as we knew that the Germans had to outdo themselves with this car after the 1 Series full-on M model.

However, during the same interview, the VP also said that the M2 was 'unlikely, at least for now'. That was almost 3 months ago and now, that we've seen the specs and design of the new M235i, things might get interesting, once again.

That's because all sorts of M2 renderings started popping up around the internet, hinting at a full on M model from the Bavarians. We would definitely love an M2 ourselves but the problem would be its positioning inside the company's line-up.

What engine could it use, since the M3 and M4 will be using a 3-liter biturbo unit? What kind of specs could it possibly return so that it would be better than the M235i and under the M4? And where would that leave the M235i? Answering all these questions will, ultimately, bring you to one conclusion: there's no room for a proper M2. But we can still dream of it, right?
