Rendering: BMW iM Looks Like an Eco-Friendly Supercar

When it comes to the hottest and most discussed rumors in the industry, the possibility of a car from BMW that would blend the characters of the i and M sub-brands is right up there, at the top of the charts. The thing is, officials denied such a possibility over and over again.

For the future, the Germans will keep their two brands separated with no intention of blending and mixing with each other. While the M badge will be applied to the most hardcore creations, the i logo will be worn by those that are most eco-friendly.

That doesn’t mean that technology won’t be shared between them. The new M boss, Mr. van Meel said that there are some exciting bits and pieces under development at the division he’s running and they include lightweight materials and electrified parts.

Since the company’s 100th anniversary is coming up, a lot of people rushed to claim that it’s the perfect occasion to launch a supercar that would finally take on the competition like the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S and Audi R8.

Nothing of that sort was confirmed but we can dream, can we not? The rendering below was done by South African automotive designer Idries Noah and he calls it the BMW iM.

Since all he did was put together the exterior styling, it is up to us to make assumptions as to what kind of powertrain it would use. If it was up to us and our wildest dreams, we’d have the 5-liter V10 S85 beast fitted under there, together with a small 100 HP and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) electric motor for those moments when the ICE is revving up.

If we were to be realistic, the S55 3-liter biturbo plant would be our assumption, once again mated to an electric motor making somewhere around 200-250 HP and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. In this combination, the car would have over 600 HP and 800 Nm of torque at its disposal to challenge the likes of the AMG GT S. What would be your choice?
