Back in the 90s, BMW decided to do a small experiment, launching an E36 with a weird body style. That car was called the BMW E36 3 Series Compact and, make no mistake about it, it was as ugly as it can get.
Sure, a lot of people that drove it claimed it was brilliant, combining the rear axle from the E30 3 Series (that was better than you’d expect) with the revised front from the E36 and its new engines.

However, it was uglier than Frankenstein’s monster and sharing some of its characteristics too. The E36 was followed by the E46 Compact that was even weirder, using some down-right geek classes as headlights.

Today, with the new 4 Series taking over the 3 Series Coupe segment, the Bavarians might be tempted to bring another such car to life. That car was rendered by Hungarian designer, X-Tomi and it’s simply weird.

Right now, I wouldn’t call it ugly but it’s not pretty either. The C-Pillar is absolutely out of shape and that rear end could use some more style. Hopefully, BMW won’t decide to bring the Compact back to life any time soon.
