While a rendering of some Korean car that they never heard about in Europe or America is insignificant, but that’s not exactly true. You’re thinking about the old Kia, not the same company that make the cool-looking Optima and Picanto.
The 2013 K9 will likely be unveiled next year, and will become the company’s new flagship model, bigger than the K7 (Cadenza). Now, the old K9 (also known as the Opirus or Amanti) was about as cool and marketable as the Lancia Thesis, and that’s not exactly a compliment, but I think you’ll agree this looks as stunning as any BMW or Mercedes does.
This unofficial rendering we found on KoreanCarBlog show a long, slender silhouette with a bit of muscle at the front. It’s a bit reminiscent of the Maserati Quattroporte. We’re guessing this is actually a production version of the 2011 Kia GT Concept that was shown this year in Frankfurt. This would mean that they are considering a turbocharged V6 for this bad boy.
However, it’s supposedly underpinned by the same chassis as the Hyundai Hyundai Equus and will get the same 5.0-liter GDI V8 engine with 429 horsepower and their own 8-speed automatic. The GT Concept from Frankfurt made use of a turbocharged V6 that sent its power to the rear wheels, but the industry is buzzing with the news that the other four-cylinder GDI-T units will also be used.
Sources say the K9 will bow in spring 2012, but only in Korea, as the European and American debut is still a year away.
