Renault–Nissan Alliance Partner with Barcelona

The Renault–Nissan Alliance and its goal of creating the world's first EV charging infrastructure is moving deeper into Europe with the new agreement signed with the city of Barcelona, in Spain. As with all other areas, the two partners will work together to find suitable areas for the creation of the charging stations and the promotion of zero-emission vehicles.

The Alliance is proud to partner with the City of Barcelona,” Manuel de la Guardia, Managing, Nissan Iberia director said in a release. “We have a long history and deep connections with this city and through the signing of the MOU we are opening a new chapter towards zero-emission mobility.

The city of Barcelona is driven by innovation and the zero emission mobility program is one of our commitments. Also, when considering the population density of the city, there is a need for concrete actions to promote sustainability,” Jordi William Carnes, Barcelona's representative added.

Barcelona is thus reenforcing its eco-friendly approach, which debuted this year with the plan for a sustainable mobility program through developing the conditions needed for EVs to become a viable alternative. The plan includes tax breaks for EV buyers, dedicated EV-only zones and parking spaces and the creation of 191 charging points by 2011.

Obviuosly, the partnership will allow the alliance to promote the Nissan Leaf and the four electric vehicles presented by Nissan at last month's Frankfurt Auto Show. Renault's EV will arrive onto the market next year, while Renault plans their introduction starting with 2011.
