The Nissan Leaf has established itself as the reference vehicle in the sector, and with good reason, as it’s genuinely a good and well engineered car. Renault, however, have announced that they expect the Clio-sized EV to dramatically outsell the Leaf.
Renault’s bold claims are based on the following fact: they currently have a substantially higher production capacity for the Zoe, at 150,000 units/year, which is considerably more than Nissan’s current 25,000 units/year. However, next year, Nissan’s UK-based plant, in Sunderland, will come online and capacity will be boosted to more than 200,000 units/year at full capacity.
The Zoe will be available in Europe for a price tag of €16,300 ($21,000), which is about half of what the Leaf costs. This is partly due to the Renault’s battery leasing program of around €86 ($110) per month and its smaller size and the fact that its range is around 25-30% smaller than the Leaf’s.
