Up until now, Renault was offering its ZOE and Kangoo Z.E. electric vehicles without the option to buy the battery in order to cut down the purchasing costs and thus make the EV more accessible to a wider public. Well, some buyers that were interested in one of the two backed up from the deal so now the company is offering batteries for everyone to fully pay for right from the beginning.
The new offer currently starts in the UK following to spread on all markets, where customers can order a new ZOE i and Kangoo Z.E. i that are supplied “Full Purchase”. This means there is now the choice between full ownership of both the vehicle and its battery, which was offered on lease up so far.

Whichever payout method the customer chooses, the ZOE model lineup will basically be the same, comprising Expression, Dynamique Zen and Dynamique Intense trim levels. Same goes for the Kangoo Z.E., which is offered in Van, Maxi, Crew Van and Kangoo Maxi Crew Can Cab.

What’s the i

Purchasing both the vehicle and the battery will also add a small “i” to the grade’s name to ensure easy identification for the used vehicle market. Prices start at £18,443 “on-the-road” for the ZOE and £16,161 (+VAT) for the Kangoo, all prices including the Government EV incentives.

The fully purchased models are backed up by a five-year/60,000-mile warranty for the battery pack while the rest of the car comes with the standard Renault vehicle protection of four years/100,000 miles.

Still, if you don’t want to pay up front for the whole car, the battery lease will still be available, starting from £25 per month (down from £45) for the ZOE and £33+VAT per month (down from £61+VAT) for the Kangoo.

Overall, the Renault-Nissan Alliance has sold 200,000 electric vehicles, having a leading 58 percent market share for zero-emission cars. As expected, the Nissan Leaf is the world best-selling EV and the model is also on track to be the top electric vehicle in 2014, outselling all other electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
