Renault Zoe, a SPA on Wheels...by Biotherm

French car manufacturer Renault partnered with L’Oreal Luxury Products division Biotherm to develop what they call the first 100% electric ‘spa’ concept car, the recently revealed Zoe ZE. The concept is, in fact, a preview of the Renault production vehicle set for launch in 2012.

Biotherm research laboratories have conducted in-depth studies on the cellular mechanisms of the skin, while also specializing in the virtues of aromatherapy. Renault too has been also involved in the “design and approval of equipment for comfort and well-being.”

The partnership therefore comes as a natural alliance between the two, and the Zoe ZE concept is first to offer a glimpse to what future in-car comfort technologies would be like. In fact, ladies could soon gossip with their girlfriends and have a spa treatment while commuting... We still cannot see the fun in that...

The vehicle’s roof protects the four occupants from the heat and cold, as well as optimizing climate control performance by recovering energy via its honeycomb photovoltaic cells. The car features a shield of polyurethane gel at the front and the back, acting as a second skin that protects vulnerable parts of the body in the event of mild urban impact.

The climate control system is much more than you might think, coming with three innovative functions:
  • Hydrating function - vaporizers spray an exclusive active substance to rehydrate the skin.
  • 'Detox' function - a toxicity sensor monitors air quality and shuts off the airvents if required.
  • Active scent function - an electric system exhales essential oils suited to the mood of the moment.
