The wait is over...Renault’s new coupe-convertible, the Wind, has been revealed ahead of its Geneva debut. This is no scale model...it’s the real thing.
The wind is underpinned by the Twingo’s platform, also sharing some exterior design features and the engines with it.
The car’s most interesting feature is its high-tech retractable roof system: unlike most other cars that use hinges for the retractable roof’s mechanism, the Wind uses a central pivot. This is not just marketing, as the system gives the car a constant boot capacity, regardless of the roof’s position. All 270 litres of the boot (that’s a 40 liter premium over the Twingo's figure) are available at any time. The roof takes 12 seconds to fold so you’ll probably never add rain to the wind in your hair when you drive one of these.
Measuring 3.83 meters in length, the Wind is larger than the Twingo. Renault wants to advertise the car as a totally distinct vehicle, rather than a Twingo CC. The complete specifications of the car will be disclosed in exactly one month, on March the 2nd at the Geneva Auto Show.
We hope the Wind gets the 133 HP 1.6 liter petrol unit which powers the Twingo RS. After all, its main rival, the Peugeot 207 CC has a 150 HP 1.6 liter petrol engine sitting at the top of the range. And we also hope (although it doesn’t seem too probable) that the Wing gets a Renaultsport version which will be as nimble as the Twingo's one.
