Renault Will Reveal New RS and Lighter Motor for Zoe at Geneva 2015

French carmaker Renault has candidly announced its presence at the Geneva Motor Show 2015. Besides the all-important Kadjar compact crossover, they also plan on revealing two more models, one being an unknown Renaultsport car and the other being a new motor for the Zoe.

What's the mystery RS?

No further details are available about the new RS model, but there are tree major directions we can take our speculation. The first is that the hot version of the Twingo is finally ready to debut. If it does wear the RS badge, then it will pick up from where the old Twingo RS left, with its 133 hp 1.6-liter engine.

That mill has been taken out of production and, in the case of the Clio GT, its place has been taken by a 120 hp 1.2-liter turbo. It has less power, but with more torque on hand and a twin-clutch gearbox, the Twingo RS might not feel any slower. And let's not forget that it's rear-wheel drive for the first time in the model's history.

The other possibility is that Renault will show a limited edition version of an existing RS model. Since the Megane was 2014's hot topic, we think the Clio RS 200 EDC is likely to be targeted, since its claim to fame has been undermined by the MINI Cooper S and the Peugeot 208 GTi 30th Edition.

Lastly, we could see a concept car to preview future projects. Renault has a tradition of being ambiguous when announcing debuts. Fans of the brand have been demanding they make a Captur RS. Will that finally happen? We don't think so, but the ways of the diamond brand are always mysterious.

"A new motor for the Zoe"

Hall 4 of the Geneva Motor Show will play host to an upgraded Renault Zoe. The French-built electric car was the second best selling EV in Europe during 2014 with 11,227 vehicles delivered. This represents a 20% share of the market, so despite the relatively low volume, Renault is keen to invest into the only green car it has that really works.

Earlier reports have indicated that a new, lighter motor will be added to the Zoe. The unit is air-cooled, takes up 10% less volume and will increase the total range of the vehicle by around 20 kilometers. As it stands, the ZOE has a range of 210 km (130.5 miles), so the new numbers should rest somewhere around 230 km (143 miles).
