Renault is looking to launch a special version of the Twizy city car in the UK, with this having its top speed limited at 28 mph (45 km/h) that will allow it to be entered in a new light-vehicle category, which means that it can be driven by those of at least 16 year of age without a driving license.
The new category is set to debut in January next year and will include quadricycles that have the aforementioned top speed, and come with an unladen weight of up to 350 kg.
This seems like an incredibly tempting proposal, but insurance might be an issue, as drivers under 18 could end up paying premiums that would certainly drive them away from buying such a car. Since we’ve reached the financial side of this story, we’ll also mention that the Twizy comes with an UK pricing of GBP6,200.
