Renault Twizy Gets Copied by Chinese Automaker

What? Did Renault refused to market its new Twizy in China? No problem, a local automaker is already offering the electric runabout... with another badge, of course... and without the French carmaker’s approval.

Have you noticed those Chinese men taking measuring and taking notes about cars at some auto shows? Let me put it this way: what they are doing there has nothing to do with quality control. But their work spawns models like the Twizy clone we see here.

According to CarNewsChina, what you see here is the “work” of Zhejiang Litong New Energy Automobile Corporation, based in the city Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province, and it’s so similar to the Twizy that we’ll only have to count the differences.

The doors, rims, wheel arches, taillight and the dashboard are the only bits that set it apart from the original model. It is called the Rayttle E28 and according to the automaker’s site it comes with a “unique European style”. Oh and the company describes itself as “standing in the international forefront of fashion design”.

It’s quite possible some buyers really believe that and even order their own E28, especially because it’s half the price of a real €7,240 Twizy. And some Chinese cities really need more electric vehicles to get rid of that thick air pollution.
