Renault to Revive Gordini Nameplate

Gordini is definitely one of the nameplates that would easily capture one's attention, at least when talking about French carmaker Renault. Well, it appears the manufacturer wants to revive Gordini but not as a separate name but as a new range of sporty cars to be launched in the future. writes that the future series entitled Gordini will be introduced above the current lineup, hence the sports features, but below the Renaultsport models that are currently the top-of-the-line when it comes to a particular Renault car. It appears that the French manufacturer is considering applying a wide array of modifications, such as bodykits, new alloy wheels and special paintjobs.

Twingo is currently the first model believed to get the Gordini makeover, while the Megane Gordini and Clio Gordini are likely to be released at a later date. The official announcement is expected to be released sometime next week, the aforementioned source said in a note.

Meanwhile, Renault is also preparing for electrification and announced plans to build electric cars and batteries in France and Spain. In France, production of batteries will begin in mid-2012, with the Flins facility to boast an estimated 100,000 units per year.

“Realizing the potential of zero-emission mobility on a mass scale requires unique collaboration between public and private sectors,"
said Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO of Renault and Nissan. "We welcome the vision and commitment made today by the French government, the CEA and the FSI to invest with the Renault Nissan Alliance in the future of clean transportation.”
