This week, French President Francois Hollande will visit North Africa with business clearly on his agenda. Bloomblerg has learned that an agreement between France and Algeria will be signed, and France’s second largest carmaker Renault will establish a new factory there.
The deal will likely become official later in the week, and we’re likely going to hear that the Algerian factory will make as many as 75,000 cars for the North African market.
We believe there will only be one model produced from Algeria at first, the new Renault Symbol, or Thalia as it’s known in some markets. The car was shown in November, and the official world was it would be first sold in Turkey, Algeria and Tunisia.
As you can probably tell, the new generation of Symbol that will go on sale next year is just a rebadged Dacia Logan. Powertrains will include the new TCe 90 petrol, a 0.9-liter turbo engine with 90 horsepower, returning 5.3 liters per 100 kilometers, equivalent to 122 g/km of CO2. Just like the Logan, it will aso come with two versions of the 1.5-liter diesel, the dCi 75 and dCi 90 engine.
