According to a bit of pricing information we've found, the new Talisman sedan will be competitively priced without being cheap. Prices will start at €28,150, making this big sedan cheaper even than the Espace MPV.
The reason is that the Talisman range starts with an engine you wouldn't expect to be offered in this size of car, the 1.5 dCi rated at 110 horsepower. We've tested it on a Mercedes-Benz B-Class weighing nearly 1.5 tons and can say it's up to the job, but the concept seems underwhelming.

That said, the Volkswagen Passat and Opel Insignia both offer 1.6-liter diesel engines with similar specs, so we can't judge the French automaker.

Jumping from the spartan Talisman Life to the Zen trim level bumps the price to €30,150 with the same 1.5-liter engine. You'll need another €2,000 to get rid of the small dCi and get the 130 hp 1.6-liter version.

However, it's the middle Intens trim level that brings the most powertrain combinations. For €25,150, you can get a 1.5-liter diesel with the EDC twin-clutch gearbox, for example. There is also a twin-turbo 1.6 dCi rated at 160 horsepower that can be yours for €38,150. However, we think there's a glitch here, and this number needs to be €1,000 higher.

The most powerful engine that will be available is a 1.6-liter TCe borrowed from the Clio RS and still producing 200 horsepower. You can have it with an auto gearbox as standard for €40,150 in the Intens trim level or €44,150 in the Initiale Paris one.

These numbers that we received from Caroom are only relevant in France. For the sake of comparison, we opened up the configurator and looked at the 2015 Passat. In the same country, the German 4-door starts at €25,700. For around €47,000, you can get the 240 hp BiTDI model with all-wheel drive, a 7-speed auto and the R-Line body kit. We'll let you be the judge of which car constitutes better value, not before mentioning Renault is likely to offer a discount at launch.
