Renault Symbol Arrives in Argentina

Renault continues its offensive in the South American market using the new Symbol, a model initially unveiled to the general public at the Moscow Auto Show. Symbol, which is basically a sedan variant of the popular Clio, arrived in Argentina today, with Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay and Colombia to receive in the next few weeks. The South American Symbol production will be exclusively made by the Santa Isabel facility in Cordoba, Argentina, Just-auto wrote today.

The French carmaker invested approximately 40 million euros for the South American launch, with an additional 64 million euros prepared for the production facility, the same source added. Renault plans to transfer the production of the Clio II from Brazil to Argentina by 2010. However, the new Symbol's engine will be built in Brazil at Curitiba while the transmission systems will come from Los Andes, Chile.

According to the aforementioned source, Renault had a remarkable success on the South American market, with sales up 6.5 percent at the end of November. This means the company has delivered approximately 240,000 cars, with 100,000 units sent to Brazil and 75,000 bought by Argentineans.

And speaking of Renault's models on the South American market, the Symbol is the sixth car produced by the French automaker which arrives there, following the launch of Logan, Sandero, Sandero Stepway, Megane Sedan and Megane Estate.

The South American market grew up approximately 4.4 percent in the first 11 months of the year, which is quite important figures taking into account the downturn global manufacturers have experienced in the last few months. However, Renault says the popular Symbol, which is already available on various European markets, is expected to bring strong sales in South America and help the French manufacturer increase its market share in the region.
