Renault Shares Photos of New Megane 1.2 TCe with 130 HP and EDC Gearbox

Even though the ‘new’ Renault Megane made its video debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show last month, we still don’t know very much about the car. That’s because full details will only be available next year when they put it on sale.

The only visible ‘new’ part about the car is a slightly redesigned front end, featuring restyled elements for the headlights (they’re the same outer shape though), a new upper grille with large diamond badge and black wedge and refreshed lower bumper.

Just like we suspected, engine choices are also being made and a few hours ago the French automaker shared these photos with the Facebook fans. They show a 5-door Megane in silver. Evident are changes like 17-inch wheels borrowed from the Captur.

The big announcement, however, is that the Megane will be available with a 130 hp gasoline engine. No details are given, but of course they are talking about the TCe 130, a 1.2-liter four-cylinder turbo engine. It’s being fitted with an EDC gearbox, Renault speak for double-clutch, just like on the Golf. The EDC is a six-speed unit shared with some Ford PowerShift cars and is developed and made by GETRAG. The nice thing about it is it’s basically maintenance-free.

Upon closer inspection, the Megane in the photos has a dCi badge on the back, which we think means you will also have the EDC option on a the 130 dCi, the 1.6-liter engine. The same combo is available on the top-spec Fluence facelift.

If you’re in the mood for geeky info, know that the new TCe 130 is codenamed H5Ft Gen2, is the 9th from the Energy family, derived from the TCe 115 and replaces the 1.5 TCe codenamed H4Jt. As opposed to the older 1.4 which had indirect injection, this one comes with direct injection.
