Renault's Board of Directors Confirm F1 Stay

Following Toyota's announcement regarding their non-existent Formula One plans for the future, the fear of F1 losing yet another manufacturer in 2010 loomed within the FIA. Renault were the team everyone believed would quit the series next year, and the meeting between the French manufacturer's board of directors yesterday did nothing but to confirm those worries.

However, after discussing things through, the French officials agreed that quitting the sport is not a solution for the time being, despite the team's low chances of fighting for the title next year.

We will not be world champions in 2010, but we do have hopes to be much improved,” said Renault's F1 managing director Jean-Francois Caubet following the Wednesday meeting of the Renault board.

We have already contracted our drivers, had our budget approved and are enrolled in the world championship. Season 2010 has begun already,” added the Renault official, who added that the company's CEO Carlos Ghosn expects a midfield-to-top performance from the Enstone based organization next year.

Renault were involved in the famous crash gate earlier this year but, despite the grave (proven) accusations they were subject to, received no penalty from the FIA. The only “punishment” they got was a 2-year suspended ban, as compared to a lifetime ban for Renault's former boss Flavio Briatore. It is believed the FIA worked something through with Renault in order to keep the French constructor in the series, as a costly ban would have seen them leave the sport at the end of 2009.

The Enstone organization has already contracted Robert Kubica for a one-year deal in F1, and are now looking to complete their 2010 lineup in the upcoming few weeks.
