Renault Released Its First-Half 2009 Sales Figures

The French car manufacturer released today its figures for world-wide sales in the first-half of 2009. On a global level, Renault Group (PC+LCV – passenger cars+ light commercial vehicles) had a 3.7% market share. Renault's sales world-wide followed the global trend for the PC+LCV market and dropped 16.5%, exactly the same as the international index value.

With respect to the PC market in particular, the French carmaker managed a 0.1 percent increase of its market share to 4.3%. Though PC sales for Renault were down 13.4%, the global PC market fell 15.6%.

In Europe, the Renault group registered a steady PC market share of 8.4%, while in the LCV market the group recorded a 0.6% increase in market share to 14.8%. With this result for the first-half of 2009, Renault managed to hold its No. 1 position in Europe for the LCV market, for more than 11 years.

For the first-half of 2009, Renault brand managed total sales figure for the PC market of 768,704 units. That is 19.1 percent lower than the 2008 figure of 949,948 for the same period of time. In the LCV market, the Renault brand recorded a spectacular 33.2% drop from 194,623 in 2008 to 129,962 at the end of June 2009.

The Dacia brand seems to be of crucial importance to the French auto maker since it registered a 22.9% increase in the PC market from 118,956 units in 2008 to 146,160 units in June 2009. For the same period of 6 months, Dacia's sales in the LCV market fell by 13.7% from 8,886 units in 2008 to 7,666 units in 2009.

This result shows that Renault group managed good sales in the entry-level car segment and would prove convenient for it to support this segment.
