The event uses a route that starts from Madeira Drive in Brighton (the start is scheduled for Saturday, November 6 at 8 am), travels 57 miles(92 km) and ends at London’s Pall Mall. Organisers will test each of the 60 vehicles that will take part in the competition to measure its energy usage.
“Its headline low-emission figures have been achieved thanks to a wide range of technical enhancements, including aerodynamic aids at the front and rear, revised engine mapping, taller gearing and reduced rolling resistance tyres. The fuel-sipping Clio can achieve 76.3 miles per gallon [63.5 US mpg or 3.7 liters/100 km)on the combined cycle, meaning the duo should be able to complete the challenge using under a gallon of fuel,” stated the press release.
In the following twelve months, Renault plans to introduce several “green flagship” models to the UK market, with the list including the Twingo dCi 85 FAP at 90g/km, Clio dCi 90 FAP at 90g/km, Mégane dCi 110 FAP at 106g/km, Grand Scénic dCi 110 FAP EDC (Efficient Dual Clutch) at 130 g/km and Laguna dCi 110 FAP at 120 g/km.
“The Future Car Challenge is organised by Motion Works for the RAC who believe the event is the biggest of its kind in Europe. The formal finish will be in Pall Mall followed by a special ceremony and presentation in Regent Street. Here, the vehicles will join the display of more than 100 pre-1905 motor cars in the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run International Concours in front of an estimated 250,000 crowd.” stated the press release.
